Units from the Tuscaloosa Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle shortly after 8:30 a.m. after the driver was seen weaving in and out of traffic in the eastbound lanes of McFarland Boulevard.

The driver led police on a brief pursuit and ran a red light, causing an wreck at the intersection of McFarland Boulevard and the James I Harrison Parkway.

Tuscaloosa County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Don Hartley says four vehicles were involved in the accident and several individuals, including the suspect, sustained injuries.

UPDATE 9:30 A.M.: Stephanie Taylor, a TPD spokesperson, said the chase began at 8:39 when officers attempted to stop a white Toyota Camry.

Taylor said after the fleeing driver crashed into traffic, a man and woman got out of the Toyota and tried to leave the scene on foot, but both were taken into custody and are being interviewed by police.

She said only one person involved in the accident required hospitalization, and that victim is being treated for minor injuries at DCH Regional Medical Center.
