A mother in Tuscaloosa has been indicted for murder and felony assault for allegedly causing a catastrophic wreck that killed her 3-year-old daughter and injured her son last year.

Court documents say she was impaired, speeding and ran a stop sign before the wreck took place on Highway 69 South in late March 2023.

Police said the Tuscaloosa mother, then 24-year-old Shadereka M.L. Green, was driving a Hyundai Genesis that collided with a Ford F-350 on Highway 69 South about seven miles south of Tuscaloosa city limits.

Green's 3-year-old daughter and her 4-year-old son were in the Genesis with her, and State Troopers said none of them were wearing seatbelts or child restraints.

All three were ejected from the vehicle in the crash, and the three-year-old, Kimora Landrum, was reportedly struck by a third vehicle after the initial collision. She did not survive, and Green and the 4-year-old were badly hurt and hospitalized.

A GoFundMe to cover Kimora's funeral expenses raised almost $9,000 in the wake of the accident.

After the deadly accident, police began to investigate its causes. Late last year, prosecutors presented their case to a grand jury and accused Green of being responsible for the wreck.

The grand jury agreed and indicted Shadereka Green for one count of murder and one count of first-degree assault.

In the indictment, which was filed publicly Friday, the grand jury accused Green of "operating a motor vehicle under the influence of both alcohol and THC," "speeding with an unrestrained child," and "running through a stop sign," causing the deadly wreck.

A warrant of arrest was issued in December and served Thursday. Green, now 25, has since been released on a $50,000 bond and the process of prosecution will begin.
