The newest supermarket in the Tuscaloosa area is set to open later this week on Highway 69, where another Winn-Dixie store has been converted into ALDI's distinctive format.

The German supermarket chain acquired Southeastern Grocers in 2023 and has been gradually changing over Winn-Dixie locations in the region into ALDI stores.

As the Thread first reported in December, ALDI decided last year to close the Winn-Dixie on Highway 69 South, just beside Shelton State Community College, to begin the same process there.

Less than a year later, the new ALDI is getting its finishing touches ahead of a Grand Opening celebration planned for this Thursday, September 18th.

A newly launched site for the Highway 69 location shares all the details: the store will actually open tomorrow, Wednesday the 17th, for a Sneak Peek before the grand opening, allowing early shoppers full access to the store.

The next morning, on Thursday, the Grand Opening will kick off with a 9:00 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, roughly 30 minutes before the store officially opens to customers.

The first 100 shoppers in the store on Thursday get a bag of free ALDI goodies and a Golden Ticket that could be worth up to $100.

All Thursday visitors will receive a free ALDI shopping tote, while supplies last. Additionally, anyone stopping by between Thursday and Sunday will have the opportunity to scan a code in-store to enter for a chance to win a $500 ALDI gift card.

The new store is the fourth ALDI in the Tuscaloosa area.
