McFarland Boulevard Closures Planned as ALDOT Enters Final Stages of I-20/59 Bridge Project in Tuscaloosa, Alabama
It's been years in the making, and now the Alabama Department of Transportation is entering the final stages of construction in the Interstate 20/59 Bridge Project.
The contractor announced that all lanes of McFarland Boulevard will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday, August 6 through 5 a.m. Monday, August 9th, as crews work on a new single-point urban interchange at Exit 73. The lane closures only impact the portion of McFarland Boulevard that run directly underneath the interstate.
ALDOT says the new arches are now supporting the weight of the interstate overpass, allowing for additional room beneath the bridge. The new interchange will allow traffic to flow more freely and reduce transit times within Tuscaloosa.
Following the completion of the new interchange, ALDOT plans intermittent lane closures for median work and the installation of signs and a new sidewalk.
