ALDOT Plans Lane Closures On Highway 82 Next Week as Bridge Project Continues
The Alabama Department of Transportation will implement a series of rolling lane closures on Highway 82 near Coker in Tuscaloosa County as its bridge-replacement project there reaches the halfway mark.
John McWilliams, an ALDOT spokesperson in West Alabama, said crews will place the final set of girders for the new bridge over Big Creek in Coker on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

The project to replace two bridges over Big Creek in Coker with a single larger bridge began last May and is expected to wrap up in early 2027. The $10 million job is being done by Tuscaloosa's Ikaros, LLC.
For this final girder placement, eastbound traffic will be stopped for up to 20 minutes at a time while each girder is placed, and police will be on hand to assist with any road closures as they occur.
The girders have already been placed for the westbound bridge lanes, and there should be no impact on that direction of travel.
McWilliams said the lane closures will not happen before 8:30 a.m. or after 2:30 p.m., so there will be limited impact on commuter traffic in the morning and afternoon.
These eastbound closures will take place during the workday on Tuesday, April 14th, and Wednesday, April 15th. Expect periodic daytime delays during which eastbound traffic could be stopped for up to 20 minutes.
