Drivers crossing the Woolsey Finnell Bridge on McFarland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa should expect travel delays and intermittent lane closures next week.

The Alabama Department of Transportation has scheduled a routine bridge inspection for next Monday and Tuesday, with closures running from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days, weather permitting. Their crews will inspect the bridge, which carries U.S. Highway 82 over the Black Warrior River.

Crews will begin on the westbound side, ALDOT said, and at least one lane will remain open in each direction throughout the inspection.

Motorists should still plan for possible delays and use caution in the work zone.

The inspections come as ALDOT and the city of Tuscaloosa continue collaborating on plans to double the size of the Woolsey Finnell Bridge and add two lanes in both directions - a more than $100 million project that is mostly federally funded. Once that multi-year job is complete, the bridge will be eight lanes wide.
