Three Months of Overnight Lane Closures Coming to I-20/59 in Tuscaloosa

Overnight lane closures start this week on Interstate 20/59 in Tuscaloosa as crews begin a three-month resurfacing project.

The Alabama Department of Transportation said work begins Tuesday on a 2.53-mile stretch running from near Exit 68 to the Interstate 359 interchange in West Tuscaloosa. ALDOT expects the job to take roughly three months, weather permitting.

Crews will work at night. Lane closures are prohibited between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. to keep daytime traffic moving.

Closures are also barred on Saturdays when the University of Alabama has a home football game.

ALDOT said the resurfacing is meant to improve mobility and safety along the corridor. Drivers should expect delays during overnight work and use caution through the work zone.

S.T. Bunn Construction Company won the contract at $2.68 million.
