Tuscaloosa Woman Killed in Hit-And-Run, Police Search for Driver
Police in Tuscaloosa are investigating after a local woman was fatally struck by a vehicle Thursday night.
Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said a 58-year-old woman who lives nearby was struck by a vehicle on Englewood Village Drive off Highway 69 South Thursday.
A second driver called 911 after spotting the woman in the roadway, but Taylor said the woman's injuries were too severe for paramedics to save.
The original vehicle that struck the woman left the scene, Taylor said, and police believe it happened around 9:30 p.m. Thurdsay.
TPD's Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the deadly hit-and-run. Taylor said family members told police the victim suffered from a medical condition that may have caused her to collapse while walking before she was struck.
Even if that were the case, though, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries or a fatality is a Class C felony, Taylor said, and investigators continue to search or the driver involved.
UPDATE: Taylor said the victim was Patricia Ann Brooks, and she was struck within a short walking distance from her residence.
