
Plea Deal Nets Walker County Man 9 Years for Drug Possession
50-year-old Shannon Wayne Herron of Walker County has been sentenced for illegally possessing cocaine. The announcement coming from the office of U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.
U.S. District Court Judge Anna M. Manasco sentenced the Jasper resident to 108 months in prison. In February, Herron pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The sentence is a result of a plea deal.
According to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Northern District of Alabama, on November 1, 2023, detectives with the Jasper Police Department Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant on a residence in Jasper. During the search, officers recovered 366 grams of pure methamphetamine, marijuana, a digital scale, a ledger containing names with dollar amounts next to the names, four cell phones, and approximately $1,800 in cash.

41-year-old Kristi Hamilton Bryant was also arrested and charged with one count each of trafficking methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Eight years ago, the Saragossa resident was wanted for Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance, and Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance. The case stemmed from drugs being sold out of a gas station on Curry Highway in Walker County.
The pair were taken into custody at a home on Lakeview Drive on Lewis Smith Lake. According to Jasper PD, A traffic stop provided Jasper narcotics agents with information that led to the investigation and Wednesday’s arrest.
As reported by Tuscaloosa Thread at the time of the arrest, Jasper PD said both suspects have a history of felony drug crime - Herron is reportedly on probation for federal drug trafficking charges and Bryant was charged with distribution in 2018.
The Drug Enforcement Administration investigated the case along with the Jasper Police Department Narcotics Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristy Peoples prosecuted the case.
