Party primary elections are three weeks from today as Democrats and Republicans chose their party's candidates for the November 10 General Election. That means prepare for a proliferation of political commercials and mailers between now and May 19th as candidates attempt to woe voters.

Unlike the general election in November, election pole officials will ask voters which party ballot they want, Democrat or Republican. In Alabama, the primary election is part of the nominating process for a political party. If there is a runoff in either party primary a voter must vote only in the runoff of the party in which you cast a primary election ballot.

Voters will not be able to cast ballots across party lines until the General Election.

Alabama citizens can register to vote online at alabamavotes.gov if they have a valid Alabama Driver’s License or Non-Driver ID card. Citizens can also register at their registrar's office at the county courthouse.

The last day to request an absentee ballot is May 14 and they must be returned by the 18th. Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received by noon on Primary Election Day.
