Teenager Killed in Late-Night Shooting at Knoll Circle Apartments in Northport
A teenager was killed in a shooting at Knoll Circle apartments in Northport on Monday, June 8.
Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Captain Jack Kennedy says the Northport Police Department received a call at 11:55 p.m. about a juvenile who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found a male suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of first responders, they were unable to save the life of the teenager.
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes unit was then called to the scene, and investigators determined that several other juvenile males and at least two adult males were in the apartment when the incident occurred.
"The apartment was not the residence of the victim, nor were his parents on scene at the time of the incident," Kennedy said in a release to the media.
Evidence at this time does not indicate that a fight or argument was underway when the shooting occurred, and it is unclear at this time how the weapons were in the apartment.
"[It is early in the investigation] and we continue to speak with involved parties and examine the evidence to determine the events that led to the victim being shot," Kennedy said. "Charges may be filed once all the parties have been talked to and the evidence examined."
Because Alabama law protects the identities of juvenile suspects and victims, officials will not release identifying information beyond the genders of those involved.
