Polls Are Open To Vote For Dog Mayor
It's "pawlitical" season in West Alabama, where it seems there is an election for everything this year. So why not pooch politics? And since local office holders are non-partisan in Alabama, why not have a "Dog Mayor Race?"
Qualifying is complete, and 30 candidates have thrown their collars into the ring to become the area's first "Dog Mayor." Each contender has one major political promise: to raise campaign contributions for the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter. Who better to lead the city than "man's best friend?"
No voter ID is required; you don't even have to be a registered voter. All you need is love for our furry friends to cast your treat, uh, your vote. Polls are open and will not close until June 28th.
A lot of campaign contributors wonder how their dollars are being spent, but there is no doubt the money raised for these campaigns is going to a good cause, the Metro Animal Shelter. It is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that receives funding from the Cities of Tuscaloosa and Northport, along with Tuscaloosa County. However, the shelter is inundated with thousands of animals each year, needing care and looking for a forever home. Housing them is not cheap.
The old saying, "It takes a community to raise a child” applies to so many animals who need a community to show them the same kind of love and compassion.

$1 Citizen Vote = 1 vote
$5 Campaign Supporter = 6 votes
$10 Political Donor = 15 votes
$25 Campaign Manager = 40 votes
$50 Chief of Staff = 100 votes
$100 Presidential Pack Member = 250 votes
$500 Cabinet Member = 1,500 votes
$1,000 First Family Circle = 5,000 votes
The winner will be inaugurated on June 30.
Now, how about getting the first Dog Mayor some "Cat Counselors?"
