Tuscaloosa Police Officers have taken a suspect into custody after a pursuit chasing a stolen truck trailer in the opposite lanes on I-59/20 Thursday afternoon.

According to TPD Spokesperson Stephanie Taylor, officers first received a call at 3:15 p.m. about a truck hauling a stolen utility trailer from McFarland Boulevard about half an hour earlier.

Officers soon located the truck and trailer in the area of Buttermilk and Clements Road at approximately 3:40 p.m. The driver refused to stop, and started driving east on University Boulevard.

He entered I-59/20, then exited at Covered Bridge Road, then re-entered the interstate traveling north in the southbound lanes. At some point in the pursuit, he lost the trailer.

The driver stopped the truck along the shoulder, exited the vehicle and fled into the woods. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office and Coaling Police Department all assisted in the pursuit.

After a K9 and helicopter search, officers detained the suspect.
