Tuscaloosa, Alabama Native to Host Annual Blanket Drive for Locals in Need
Last year, Tuscaloosa native Estelle Maye noticed a need in the community for blankets and toiletries around the holiday season. As the weather starts to cool down, Maye once again decided to start up her annual Holiday Blanket Drive with the hopes of fulfilling this community need.

This year, Maye hopes to collect 1,000 blankets, clothing items such as socks and caps, and toiletries like deodorant, toothpaste, soap, toothbrushes and toiletry bags. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, May will only be accepting new and unused items in her drive.
“All donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated,” Maye said. “Let us send holiday cheers by assisting those in need.”
Maye will be accepting donations and drop-offs on Oct. 23, at Holt Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For those looking to help more directly, May will also accept monetary donations through Paypal at ladymaye1234@gmail.com and CashApp at $JoiningMinds.
She plans to buy more toiletries with the monetary donations and will package each donation with homemade ribbons and tags. Those who are familiar with Maye's work can expect the return of her Facebook Live sessions, in which she brings viewers along to watch her spend the funds raised on certain items from her wishlist.
"It's something that I'm really passionate about, and I'm so happy, really delighted because it's something I started," she said. "Last year I was just as excited, but this year my goal is 1,000 blankets."
