The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Flash Flood Warning for south-central Tuscaloosa County until 9:30 p.m. CDT Friday.

Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the area at 6:26 p.m. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, affecting small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, and other low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Locations expected to experience flash flooding include Tuscaloosa, Northport, Holt, University Mall, McFarland Mall, Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, the University of Alabama Quad, Taylorville, Stillman College, Oliver Lock and Dam and Cottondale.

Residents are urged to turn around and not attempt to drive through flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
