Chamber of Commerce Building in Downtown Tuscaloosa Gets New Roof Thanks to Local Companies
A Tuscaloosa roofing manufacturer and a local contractor have teamed up to put a new roof on the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama's building in downtown Tuscaloosa, which serves as a regional hub for business development and nonprofit collaboration.
The Chamber building houses not only the Chamber and West Alabama Works but also Habitat for Humanity, the Tuscaloosa Education Foundation, Junior Achievement and several other partner organizations. The new roof is part of a broader renovation aimed at transforming the facility into a workforce and community development center.

GAF, which has operated a manufacturing facility in Tuscaloosa for nearly 50 years, donated the roofing materials for the project through its GAF Community Matters social impact initiative. Bama Roofing, a local commercial and residential contractor, handled the installation, putting down a fully adhered GAF EverGuard TPO roofing system.
“This investment helps ensure our building will continue to support businesses, workers, and organizations that drive our local economy across West Alabama, especially here in Tuscaloosa,” said Donny Jones, Executive Vice President and Chief Workforce Officer for The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama. “GAF has been a valued partner to our community for years, and this project is another example of their commitment to creating lasting impact in West Alabama.”
GAF's Tuscaloosa facility employs more than 160 people and produces enough roofing material daily to protect the homes of more than 300 families. The company has donated roofing materials for more than 100 Habitat for Humanity homes in the area over the past decade and recently donated a new roof to Stillman College's Hay College Center.
GAF Chief Operations Officer Chris Peetz said the project reflects the company's long-standing ties to the community.
“Resilient communities rely on spaces that bring people together, and we’re proud to support the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama in continuing to serve as a hub for local growth and collaboration,” said Chris Peetz, Chief Operations Officer at GAF. “Tuscaloosa is home to our employees, our manufacturing operations, and many organizations that help this community thrive. As a longtime member of this community, we’re committed to investing in the people and places that help create opportunity and strengthen West Alabama.”
Alan Page, the president at Bama Roofing, echoed the same kind of sentiments.
“As Tuscaloosa residents, we see firsthand the impact of the Chamber’s work,” said Alan Page, President of Bama Roofing. “Working alongside GAF, our team is proud to provide a roof that protects this vital space that is helping our neighbors build, grow, and succeed every day.”
