Trailer Fire Outside Northport Kills 1, No Foul Play Suspected
A Sunday fire claimed the life of one person and destroyed most of a trailer at the intersection of Rue Road and Homeplace Road, just outside of Northport city limits, according to police with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.
The fire initially started in the early morning hours, and both the Northport and Mount Olive Volunteer Fire Departments were called to the scene at approximately 5 a.m. A second wave of flames kicked back up in the evening, according to Mount Olive firefighters who were called back to the trailer.
VCU Commander Captain Jack Kennedy confirmed the fatality, but was not able to release the identity of the victim Sunday night.
The investigation was picked up by the state Fire Marshall's Office along with the VCU, which investigates all suspicious and unnatural deaths that occur within the county.
Kennedy said the investigation is still underway, but at this time there is no indication it was set intentionally. Nothing further was available Sunday night.
