Four Former Alabama Football Stars Face Criminal Cases, Here’s Where Each Stands
Four former Alabama football stars are making crime news rather than sports headlines. Former receiver Henry Ruggs, former running back Josh Jacobs, former defensive tackle Luther Davis and former defensive end Raekwon Davis all have cases with recent developments.
Ruggs was convicted in 2023 of felony DUI resulting in death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in Las Vegas, where he played for the Raiders. Traveling at 156 mph, his Corvette struck a Toyota RAV4 driven by Tina Tintor, a 23-year-old Las Vegas resident who was killed along with her dog. He received a sentence of 36 to 120 months in prison.
The star player was transferred earlier this month to a minimum-custody transitional housing facility in Reno as a trustee, meaning he is considered a lower risk for breaking rules or potential escape.
"Not a minute goes by where I don't think of the pain I caused her family, her friends and the Las Vegas community," Ruggs told a Nevada Parole Board hearing in May in a video obtained by KTNV in Las Vegas. "I'm a religious person and pray for her family daily."
Board guidelines recommended Ruggs be paroled at his first or second opportunity. His first opportunity will be August 15, 2027. The board plans to release a decision by June of next year.

Jacobs was arrested during the 2026 offseason following an incident with his then-girlfriend. He pleaded no contest on September 10 to misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property charges. He was convicted of battery and fined $1,000. The property damage charge is under a 12-month deferred judgment agreement requiring no further criminal acts, no contact with the victim, counseling with supervision and restitution payment.
Sports website ClutchPoints is reporting that attorneys for Jacobs' now ex-girlfriend have filed a motion to permanently seal evidence and discovery materials, including a video, in the criminal case.
The holder of several NFL records remains on the NFL commissioner's exempt list, meaning he cannot play or practice but is paid while on leave. It is not clear how sealing the records will impact Jacobs' playing status. The NFL is still reviewing the incident.
Two other former Tide players have made the crime blotter recently. Former defensive tackle Luther Davis pleaded guilty in April to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, using disguises to impersonate multiple NFL players. Davis and an accomplice fraudulently obtained nearly $20 million in loans. Federal court records indicate his sentencing is scheduled for late this month.
Former defensive end Raekwon Davis was arrested earlier this month in Texas after a dispute over a missing replacement car key. He was charged in Harris County with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He allegedly pushed a worker, choked him and pointed a gun at him during the dispute. Davis claims the charges are false and motivated by money. No court proceedings are currently scheduled.
Davis played on the Tide's 2017 national championship team.
