A nighttime resurfacing of Tuscaloosa's Skyland Boulevard is set to begin soon and last through spring, the Alabama Department of Transportation advised on Thursday.

John McWilliams, an ALDOT spokesperson in West Alabama, said their contractor, APAC-Alabama, will begin the $6.9 million job on Sunday, September 7th.

The project includes a 5.24-mile resurfacing on Skyland from State Route 69 to Pleasant Hill Drive in Tuscaloosa.

McWilliams said it will also lengthen and engance left turn lanes where Skyland meets Hargrove Road, Palisades Drive and Cypress Creek Avenue.

To minimize disruptions to traffic, ALDOT has designated this a nighttime project, and contractors are not allowed to close lanes between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.. There will also be no lane closures allowed on Saturdays of Alabama Football home games, sparing visitors and locals alike that nightmare on Gameday.

With good weather, the project is expected to end in late spring 2026. ALDOT says motorists should expect delays and observe work-zone speed limits.
