The exhibit and silent auction, featuring artwork by students and local artists, will be held at Harrison Galleries on 2315 University Boulevard in Tuscaloosa. The event will run from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

The "Monster Makeover" will combine the creative talent of young students and adult artists. A press release from the arts council explained that first-, second-, and third-graders from the Capitol School have created "original drawings of monsters."

Sally's Monster: "She does have a name. She lives in a cave. She is a good monster and her tongue hangs out of her mouth. She has two eyes and a nose. She likes rainbows."

This artwork was then reinterpreted by local adult artists in their own media. Here's a recreation of the monster above in both drawn rendering and sculpture:

During the exhibit, the adult monster artwork will be available for sale through a silent auction. Information on the auction will be provided at the event. All funds will support arts education in West Alabama.

The Arts Council said teachers in Tuscaloosa County with arts-based projects can apply for funding through the Arts Council's Small Grant program. Applications have closed for the season, but will re-open October 1, 2024.
