A jury in Pickens County has convicted a man of murder and more, who found him guilty of killing one man and injuring three more in a 2021 Aliceville shooting.

Andy Hamlin, the District Attorney for several West Alabama counties, said 31-year-old Jeremy Lynn Colvin has been convicted of murder, three counts of attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm after a trial that ran Monday through Friday last week.

A sentencing hearing has set for April 2nd.

The prosecution argued and the jury agreed that Colvin shot and killed 21-year-old Venson Lamont Barnes in a home on Seventh Street Northeast before dawn on May 30, 2021.

Barnes was unresponsive in the kitchen and three others were suffering from gunshot wounds.

Hamlin and his Chief Assistant District Attorney Jack Nolen prosecuted the case, Hamlin said in a press release, and it was heard by Judge Sam Junkin.

“The jury’s verdict represents justice for Venson Barnes and his loved ones, who have shown tremendous strength throughout this difficult process," Hamlin wrote." I am grateful to the survivors who came forward to testify, helping ensure that the person responsible for this senseless violence is held accountable."

Hamlin praised local and regional law enforcement for assisting in the conviction, crediting the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office the Aliceville, Reform and Gordo police departments and more.

“The successful prosecution of this case would not have been possible without the work of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the responding officers from various departments, the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, and the Tuscaloosa Police Department's Forensic Services Division," he said. "Finally, I want to thank the jury for their careful attention to the evidence and their service to our community."
