Possible Severe Weather Kicks Off the Week in Portions of Alabama

The Townsquare Media Weather Center is monitoring a storm system as it moves through the state, bringing multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms. Some of these thunderstorms could be a concern as they could develop into strong to severe levels.

Timing and Risk Areas

The overall timing is from “Monday at 10 p.m. through 4 a.m.,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

For a portion of counties in the Townsquare Media Coverage Area, this time frame is from Monday 10 p.m. until Tuesday 2 a.m. for the following counties:

Bibb – a small portion

Greene

Hale

Perry

Pickens – a tiny portion

Sumter

Tuscaloosa – a tiny portion

Probable Threats

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said the primary threats are “damaging winds up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.”

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said, “Much of the rain for North/Central Alabama will come this morning; most of the afternoon and nighttime hours will be dry. But, for the southern third of the state, periods of rain and storms are likely through tonight, and the rain will be heavy at times.”

Tuesday Afternoon and Evening Outlook

Expect an unsettled weather pattern tomorrow, with a high likelihood of afternoon and evening showers and storms.

“Not an all-day rain, but where the storms form they could be strong with potential for some small hail and gusty winds,” said Spann.
