Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson is one of the top quarterbacks in the country, and he's done so with just eight starts in his career. Through Alabama's first eight games of the season, Simpson has completed 67.8% of his passes for 2,184 yards and 20 touchdowns. Simpson has just one interception on the season. He's also added 79 yards and two touchdowns on the ground as the Crimson Tide's signal caller.

He's second in the SEC in passing yards and is sixth in the country in passing touchdowns, leading Alabama to a 7-1 record with a 5-0 record in conference play so far this season. Alabama is relying on the right arm of Ty Simpson to take the Crimson Tide back to the SEC championship game and the Tide's first appearance in the 12-team College Football Playoff, and so far, it appears to be working for Alabama.

Simpson is currently second in the Heisman Trophy odds behind only Indiana's Fernando Mendoza. He sits atop On3's latest Heisman poll as well. The individual accolades can help Simpson when it comes time for the NFL draft, but he isn't concerned about the Heisman Trophy based on his latest interview with Jim Rome. Rome asked Simpson about potentially being a Heisman finalist and taking the trip to New York on December 13 for the ceremony.

"Would be extremely blessed, right?" Simpson asked. "Would be a great opportunity. It's super exciting, right? I wouldn't be here if it weren't for my teammates and everything they do. But I think back to the reason why I came to Alabama and the championship hallway that we have. There's only four Heisman trophies, right? But there's six national championships in there. So that's what I really care about."

Simpson's play has led Alabama to the No. 4 ranking in the country and one of two teams undefeated in SEC play. The Crimson Tide currently has the best odds to win the SEC and the third-best odds to win the national championship. Simpson, a captain for Alabama this season, would have his name cemented in Alabama lore forever if he's able to help bring home a national title for the Crimson Tide this season.
