A single-vehicle crash early Monday morning has claimed the lives of two young people from Tuscaloosa, the Alabama State Troopers report.

Sergeant Reginal King, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said George L. Porter III, 19, and Latayia Necole Furr Prewitt, 22, both of Tuscaloosa, were pronounced dead at the scene after the 2013 Nissan Maxima they were riding in left the roadway, struck a guy wire, went airborne and overturned at approximately 12:30 a.m. Monday.

The driver, a 20-year-old from Bessemer, was injured and transported to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment.

King said the crash occurred on Crescent Ridge Road Northeast near 9th Street Northeast, about a mile north of Tuscaloosa.

Troopers with ALEA's Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
