
Multi-agency Effort Nabs Aliceville Prison Contraband Smugglers
Two people who traveled from Florida in an effort to smuggle contraband into the Women's Federal Correctional Institution in Aliceville have been arrested. The arrests are the result of a year-long investigation by prison authorities, the Pickens County Sheriff's Office and the 24th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

A press release from the Pickens County SO states, "As a result of the investigation, deputies with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and investigators with FCI Aliceville intercepted packages that were being introduced into the facility. The packages contained three cellular phones, approximately 36 grams of methamphetamine, 347 Suboxone strips, and controlled substances containing K2 (a synthetic designer drug that mimics THC, the main psychoactive ingredient of marijuana)."
Authorities estimated the value of the narcotics and contraband inside the low security federal prison exceeds $100,000 That is significantly higher than their street value.
The two yet to be named individuals were taken into custody on Thursday, June 11th,
Pickens County Sheriff Jordan Powell stated, “The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and FCI Aliceville Leadership, remain committed to our shared mission of ensuring public safety. By working together, we are helping keep not only our correctional facilities safe, but also our communities. We will continue to identify, investigate, and prosecute individuals who attempt to introduce illegal narcotics and contraband into our institutions and neighborhoods.”
The Pickens County facility houses up to 1,508 female offenders, 1,307 in the main facility, and an additional 201 at the satellite camp.
