Mississippi Mexican Restaurant to Open First Alabama Location in Tuscaloosa
A growing chain of Mexican restaurants in Mississippi will soon expand into Alabama to open their fifth location inside a massive space in a Tuscaloosa shopping center.
As the Thread reported in 2021, Buffalo's Cafe opened in a large corner of Tuscaloosa's Midtown Village after the Iguana Grill closed there. After three years in business, the Georgia-based chicken chain then permanently closed last July.
The space still stands vacant today but will soon once again be the home of a Mexican restaurant, according to a representative for Crawford Square, the real estate company that leases Midtown Village.

A spokesperson told the Thread that El Agave, a Mexican restaurant with four locations throughout Mississippi, has signed a lease to take over the building and will open for business soon, although a firm date has not yet been set.
"We are thrilled to welcome El Agave to Midtown Village," said Alex Conner, Leasing Manager at Crawford Square Real Estate Advisors. "We believe they will be a fantastic addition to our shopping center, offering a unique dining experience that will be enjoyed by visitors and locals alike."
A spokesperson for Crawford Square said El Agave will offer a diverse menu featuring classic Mexican favorites, salsa made fresh every morning, handcrafted cocktails and margaritas all inside a warm, family-friendly environment.
