The latest patient counts, released Monday afternoon, reveal that the DCH Health System is treating a staggering 86 inpatients for the novel Coronavirus, 22 of which are in the Intensive Care Unit and 7 of whom have required treatment with a ventilator.

On Friday, July 30th, DCH was treating 66 inpatients. The weekend saw an additional 20 patients admitted, an increase of near 30%. COVID-19 admissions in the hospital continue to surge as the highly contagious Delta variant of the virus spreads across Alabama.

Last week, DCH COO Paul Betz begged West Alabama residents to get the vaccine as a means of preventing the spread of the virus.

The healthcare provider is reestablishing its additional COVID-19 units as more patients are admitted for treatment of the virus. Betz also said the provider is working to add additional Intensive Care Unit beds in anticipation of the continuing spike in hospital admissions.
