‘We Are All Grieving Today:’ DCH Issues Official Statement After Nurse’s Tragic Murder in Regional Medical Center Parking Lot
DCH officials have issued a public response after a nurse was tragically killed in a shooting in the South parking lot of Regional Medical Center on Tuesday.
What Happened at DCH Regional Medical Center?
27-year-old Ada Doss, a DCH employee, was walking to her car during shift change when she was shot and killed at approximately 4 p.m. following an attempted robbery.
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit identified and arrested the shooter, 41-year-old Mathew James Taylor, whose statements to the VCU suggest he is mentally ill.
Taylor has been charged with Capital Murder.
How Did DCH Respond to the Murder of Ada Doss?
"We are all grieving today," the healthcare system stated in an official release.
"This tragic crime was the result of a mental health crisis that could have taken place anywhere, but regretfully, it took place in our parking lot," the statement said. "An unhealthy man did a horrific thing, and I know we all feel fear and anxiety right now."

Has DCH Increased Security at Regional Medical Center?
According to the release, heightened security measures have been put into place at DCH.
"[These measures include] escorts to cars, police presence, enhanced lights, shuttle services, and we will continue to look for ways to make sure our caregivers and patients feel safe at DCH," the statement said.
How is DCH Supporting Its Staff Following the Tragedy?
The pastoral care team has been made available to employees. DCH has also brought in its crisis counseling teams for those in need of services.
"DCH is committed to a cadence of transparency to our caregivers, the community, and the media. We will continue to provide updates as we have them," the statement said.
