Community Gathers for Prayer Service Honoring Nurse Killed at DCH Regional Medical Center
A community prayer service was held at Snow Hinton Park on Saturday in honor of the nurse who was killed in the parking lot at DCH Regional Medical Center on Tuesday.
27-year-old Ada Doss was walking to her car after a shift change when 41-year-old Matthew Taylor, who has since been charged with capital murder, shot her after attempting to rob her.

Event organizer Whitney Neal said she wanted to show Doss’s family that the community is “thinking about them every single day.”
“What happened to Ada should never have happened to anyone, and that’s something the people have to understand,” Neal said.
Doss was married with two young children. Stefan Osborn, a member of the trauma team, attended the gathering.
"Ada Doss really helped us with our patients who may not have had the resources to take care of themselves after the hospital, and she helped the care of those patients so that we could look after them after they were discharged,” he said.
Other speakers included former District 1 Tuscaloosa city councilman Rev. Matthew Wilson and Doss’s uncle.
“A daughter is gone, a mother is gone, a friend is gone,” Wilson said. "I truly believe that the life of Ada is going to be a spark that’s going to change the city of Tuscaloosa, the state of Alabama, and hopefully the nation."
Most times, people don’t even think about the persons who are working. It’s always about the people who are coming in,” Wilson said. “This is going to bring a heightened response to the need for legislation, the need of care, and heightened security."
