Dan was a very hard-working man with an uncompromising work ethic. In his early years, he was a welder & heavy equipment operator. In 1982, with only $2,000 and his good name, Dan ventured out into becoming a self-employed business owner. He leased a little block building on the side of Highway 69 North and started Tierce Grocery.

Approximately three years later, being the self-motivated kind of man that he was, Dan purchased a small piece of land from his Uncle Buster and started Dan Tierce Country Store. He sold everything from gas and groceries to bait, feed, hardware and cowboy boots.

He also had a restaurant attached to the store that was very successful. His store was a well-known landmark back in those days. A person could not give driving directions to anywhere up Highway 69 without mentioning Dan Tierce Country Store as a reference point. Lots of memories were made there.

In 1995, Dan sold his store to become a full-time farmer. His farm has been noted as being the largest tract of Tierce family farmland remaining in Tuscaloosa County. He loved his farm and loved his cattle.

Tragically though, in June of 2002, Dan had major surgery due to a stroke and was diagnosed with the onset of dementia that changed the rest of his life. Despite the challenges over the last 20 years with his diagnosis, he has never lost his love for Jesus, Elvis Presley, and hard-shell tacos from Taco Casa.

Dan and his wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed. The family takes comfort in knowing that he is at home in heaven with Jesus. He has a brand-new body, a brand-new mind, and no more pain.

Pallbearers will be Mark Cunningham, Logan Cunningham, Chris Kirkman, Tony Johnson, Andy Simmons, and Bud Shelton. Honorary pallbearers are Heritage Health Care and Rehab.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
