Travelers in Alabama will soon be able to skip the layover on American Airlines flights to New York City, the company announced last week.

In a Friday press release, American Airlines and JetBlue Airways -- who have partnered to form the Northeast Alliance and increase competition among airlines -- announced 10 new nonstop flights to New York City's LaGuardia Airport in 2023.

As part of that service rollout, flights will begin from Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport straight to LaGuardia beginning May 5th, 2023.

Other American flights will also fly direct to NYC from Knoxville, Tennessee, Greenville, South Carolina, and Columbia, South Carolina, while JetBlue also aims to add nonstop flights to LaGuardia from Atlanta next Spring.

“Giving customers more choices for travel is a critical part of the Northeast Alliance,” said Anmol Bhargava, American’s Vice President of Global Alliances and Partnerships. “We are pleased that with our partner, JetBlue, we will now serve 45 of the top 50 domestic markets from LGA.”
