ALDOT Plans Daily Ramp Closures to Clear Trees Near Tuscaloosa’s Woolsey Finnell Bridge
Crews working for the Alabama Department of Transportation will close a ramp leading from Jack Warner Parkway to the Woolsey Finnell Bridge during daylight hours for a few days to clear trees, they announced Thursday.
As the Thread has previously reported, ALDOT will use funds secured by former US Senator Richard Shelby to drastically expand the bridge - current plans are to four-lane each direction of travel.
The work must begin before 2026 and as the process moves ahead, there's some friction between city leaders are the state planners over the design of the bridge, but even as those plans are debated and finalized, the trees will have to be removed regardless.
State crews will close Jack Warner Parkway's westbound ramp from US-82 eastbound by the Woolsey Finnell Bridge in Tuscaloosa during daylight hours beginning this coming Monday, December 30th.
ALDOT says the closure is expected to last until Friday, January 3rd, weather permitting.
ALDOT will only close the ramp from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., and will leave it open on New Year’s Day, next Wednesday.
Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes during this period.
