Alabama Softball Records Shutout Wins on Second Day of Tournament
Alabama Softball added two more shutout wins on the second day of the Easton Bama Bash. The Crimson Tide faced off against No. 8 Virginia Tech and Middle Tennessee in a doubleheader in a sold-out Rhoads Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Alabama and Virginia Tech faced off in the first game of the doubleheader. The Hokies were looking for revenge after a 1-0 loss on Friday night. Lexi Kilfoyl got the start on Saturday and looked to add another top 10 win under her belt.
Both defenses were lights out as the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. Ally Shipman sent the ball right out of the park to give the Tide a 2-0 lead.
This was Shipman's second home run of the weekend and third of the season. Kilfoyl closed out the game with a 1-2-3 at the top of the seventh. The Crimson Tide is now 3-0 against ranked opponents with shutouts in all three games.
In the second game, the Crimson Tide faced off against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, where the Tide took a 1-0 read. Montana Fouts replaced freshman Alex Salter during the fourth inning and secured the final out of the fourth inning. After the last out, Alabama took control of the game in the fifth inning. The Tide scored seven straight in the fifth to win the game 8-0.
In his post-game press conference, Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy had nothing but love when asked about his star pitcher, Lexi Kilfoyl.
"Kiflfoy's game face on the mound is just unbelievable. Her intangible this year was to have a calm, cool and collected presence, and she has absolutely lived that every game she has gone out there." Murphy said. "She worked her butt off this fall and added a couple of things, and her misses are so good now..."
Alabama will face off against Middle Tennessee tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. for its final game of the Easton Bama Bash. The Crimson Tide will travel to Lafayette, Louisiana, to take on the Ragin Cajuns next Thursday before competing in Mardi Gras Mambo on Friday.
