Taylor said a two-vehicle crash happened in the 2700 Block of Skyland Boulevard near the ALDOT facility there.

A girl under the age of 10 was a passenger in one of two vehicles involved in the crash and Taylor said the child has been transported to DCH Regional Medical Center with injuries.

A large TPD presence remains in the area processing the scene of the accident.

UPDATE: On Thursday morning, Taylor said the juvenile was a 7-year-old girl, who remains hospitalized after the Wednesday evening wreck.

The child was a passenger in a Ford Taurus, which struck a BMW in front of the ALDOT office - witnesses reportedly told police the driver of the Ford was traveling without headlights and struck the BMW as it crossed Skyland to reach the westbound lanes.

"Several motorists stopped to assist the victims before paramedics arrived. Both drivers and the child were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center, where the driver of the Taurus was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening," Taylor said. "The child was later flown to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham, where she is being treated for a serious injury. She was listed in stable condition Thursday."
