Woman Dies After Rear-Ending Tuscaloosa Police Vehicle Monday Morning
A driver who may have been having a medical emergency when she collided with a Tuscaloosa Police Department patrol vehicle on Monday morning has died, police sources have confirmed.
Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for TPD, said one of their officers was stopped and assisting another motorist near Stillman Boulevard and 29th Avenue when a woman driving a third vehicle rear-ended the police Tahoe.

Taylor said police believe the driver may have been suffering from a medical emergency at the time of the crash, which may have caused the collision.
The driver was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, and Taylor said she was pronounced dead there after arrival.
The police spokesperson said it appears this death was caused by the medical event preceding the crash, not by injuries sustained in the collision. Still, an investigation is underway to determine that information definitively.
Because the minor crash involved a Tuscaloosa Police vehicle, the department will recuse its officers from the investigation, and the Northport Police Department will handle the case instead.
As of Monday afternoon, the deceased driver's identity has not yet been publicly released.
UPDATE: At 3:30 Monday, TPD said the driver is still alive but is not expected to survive her injuries.
