State Troopers Identify Man Killed in 5-Vehicle Weekend Crash
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has provided an update on the five-vehicle crash that claimed the life of one man Sunday.
The incident occurred within the intersection of McFarland Boulevard and 15th Street, one of Tuscaloosa's busiest thoroughfares. Five vehicles were involved, including an ALEA Trooper.
Reginal King, a spokesperson for the Troopers in West Alabama, reported that 47-year-old Jose Angel Guerrero Ortiz of Tuscaloosa died as a result of the crash. The Trooper was injured as well.
"The crash occurred when the Trooper's 2017 Ford Explorer struck a 1995 Jeep Cherokee driven by ... Ortiz," a statement from King read. "Ortiz was pronounced dead at the scene."
The Trooper was treated for their injuries at DCH Regional Medical Center. Their identity has not yet been released.
The Tuscaloosa Police Department was initially working this case until the ALEA Major Accident Investigation Team requested to take it over. No more information is available at this time.
