A vehicle fire has shut down one of West Alabama's busiest highways.

All lanes of US 43 in Northport are closed after a garbage truck caught fire near the intersection of Briarcliff Drive.

Motorists must take an alternate route, and authorities anticipate it will take several hours to clear the scene of the accident.
