Tuscaloosa Police officers arrested a man suspected of home invasion Monday afternoon after a short chase.

Thomas Dewayne Long, 45, is suspected of breaking into an apartment in the 300 block of Meadow Drive. A TPD spokeswoman said officers were called to the apartment around 12:30 p.m., where two residents who were home at the time said they heard a loud noise which turned out to be someone kicking in their back door.

The women called out, which might have scared the suspect into fleeing the scene. One of the residents snapped a photograph of a white, single-cab Silverado pulling away from the back of the residence before calling 911.

Seven minutes later, a patrol lieutenant located the Silverado near the intersection of Hargrove Road and 10th Avenue.

The driver, Long, refused to stop. He instead drove toward 21st Street and the area of 20th Street and Short 20th Street. He abandoned the vehicle around Short 20th and led officers on a short foot pursuit. Long was taken into custody by patrol officers and Criminal Investigations Division investigators.

Long was confirmed as the burglary suspect after reviewing surveillance footage from a nearby residence. He was charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree burglary, and may face additional charges related to the break-in.
