Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox Announces Re-election Bid for 6th Term
Tuscaloosa's mayor for the last two decades will run for a sixth term in that office, his campaign announced Thursday.
Walt Maddox was first elected mayor in 2005 after a term on the city council and has held the seat since then. His efforts to win re-election will begin in earnest in 2025 ahead of municipal elections later next year.
In his campaign announcement, Maddox touted the accomplishments and growth of the past 19 years, especially those funded by his Elevate Tuscaloosa tax plan, like thousands of dual enrollment scholarships, the expansion of pre-K availability to nearly universal levels.
Maddox also pointed to strengthened public safety, extensive economic growth downtown and on the riverfront, the creation and implementation of Tuscaloosa 311 and many more accomplishments.
“There is not a corner of our City that doesn’t speak to my soul,” Maddox said. “Every measure of progress is personal, so serving as your mayor is an honor of a lifetime.”
Maddox, who oversaw Tuscaloosa's recovery after the city was devastated by an EF-4 tornado in April 2011, said he wants to keep up the momentum and continue to lead this city.
“You deserve a mayor that is focused on results - that is focused on you,” Maddox said. “And now more than ever I want to build upon those results that will become the foundation of the city’s future.”
