A state project to resurface a seven-mile stretch of interstate in western Tuscaloosa County begins this morning and will cause lane closures and delays well into the fall.

Alabama Department of Transportation spokesperson John McWilliams said Tuscaloosa's S.T. Bunn will execute the work to repave and add new guardrail "on a portion of Interstate 20/59 from the Greene County line to near Exit 62."

The work, which will improve safety and mobility, begins today, Monday July 28th, and McWilliams said it is expected to wrap up in late fall, weather permitting.

The interstate will never be fully closed by this work, ALDOT said, and at least one lane will remain open in each direction throughout the project except when other circumstances cause additional traffic problems.

McWilliams said the project price tag is about $3.2 million.
