Officers with the Tuscaloosa Police Department are searching for a suspect who fled on foot after a high-speed chase through residential areas in the middle of the city Friday afternoon.

Stephanie Taylor, TPD's public information officer, said a patrol officer attempted to pull over a green Honda Accord they witnessed speeding and running multiple stop signs on 10th Avenue just after 1 p.m. Friday.

The driver allegedly refused to stop and drove west on 19th Street before abandoning their car at the dead end on 11th Avenue.

Taylor said the driver reached speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour while in the area of 10th Avenue and Hargrove Road near Central High School.

The suspect fled on foot toward the Crimson Student Living apartments, where TPD officers are working to find him with assistance from the department's helicopter pilots who are monitoring the area from the skies.
