Teen Charged With Stabbing His Mother’s Boyfriend to Death
A 17-year-old boy has been charged with stabbing his mother's boyfriend to death at Tuscaloosa's Hay Court Apartments early Sunday morning.
Capt. Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said police were called to the 21st Street housing complex around 4 a.m. Sunday on a domestic violence call.
Kennedy said investigators have determined that the victim, 54-year-old Keith Lavett Brown, was in a relationship with a woman who lived at Hay Court with her two sons.
One of those sons, 17-year-old Robert Ursery IV, reportedly had a long history of animosity with Brown that seems to have boiled over this weekend.
An argument between the two in the predawn hours of Sunday morning turned into a physical fight, and witnesses told police Ursery drew a knife and stabbed Brown multiple times.
The 54-year-old was dead on the scene when police arrived around 4 a.m.
Capt. Kennedy said witnesses told police that Ursery, the teenager, both started and escalated the fight that turned fatal.
Ursery, 17, has been charged as an adult with one count of murder. He was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail Sunday, where his bond was set at $150,000.
