PARA Invites Public to Tree Lighting Ahead of West Alabama Christmas Parade
Mark your calendars! The Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority will host two events ahead of next Monday's 46th Annual West Alabama Christmas Parade.
According to a release from a PARA spokesperson, a Grand Marshal reception will take place prior to the parade to honor this year's grand marshals, who were announced in late October.
The reception will honor Lyda Black, Clell Hobson, Sr., Gary Minor, and Dr. Samory Pruitt for their contributions to the Tuscaloosa community. The event will feature live music from Ali Mims, Miss Tuscaloosa’s Outstanding Teen, and Evan Riley Lofthus, Miss Tuscaloosa’s Outstanding Teen Rising Star.
The annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place before the start of the parade at the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse at 5:30 p.m. next Monday and will be hosted by Probate Judge Rob Robertson.
The event will feature performances from the University of Alabama Tuba Octet and the Westwood Elementary School Singers. During the ceremony, the grand marshals will continue the annual tradition of "flipping the switch" to light the tree.
The parade will follow the ceremony, beginning at 6 p.m.
Parade attendees, residents, businesses and travelers should take note, as many streets will be blocked off for the parade and heavy foot traffic is expected.
