UPDATE: 1:30 p.m. Allen updated The Thread to report that the wreck occurred when a commercial vehicle overturned. The vehicle was hauling some sort of flammable material that caused a hazardous spill.

Hazmat crews and the Greene County Sheriff's Office are on the scene. The interstate remains closed, but the Greene County Sheriff's Office anticipates having the road open sometime later this afternoon.

Several hours after the accident, an overturned truck that's caught on fire is still causing major traffic delays on I-20-59.

Townsquare Media Traffic Reporter "Captain" Ray Allen told The Thread that the accident reportedly occurred early Wednesday morning when a truck overturned and caught on fire.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has been on the scene since approximately 4 a.m.

As of publishing, the eastbound lanes of I-20/59 remain closed between the Boligee and the Eutaw exits. Traffic is being diverted onto U.S. 11.

At this time, there's no official word on any injuries or fatalities as a result of this accident.
