Montana Fouts Joins McCleney On Team USA
Alabama senior ace RHP Montana Fouts and 2016 alumna Haylie McCleney have been selected to compete with Team USA Softball for the upcoming 2022 World Games in Birmingham.
McCleney isn't a stranger to Team USA and, like Fouts, earned her spot on the national team while still playing for the Tide (2014). She's a three-time first-team All-American in Crimson and the owner of a silver medal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
She ended her time in Tuscaloosa as the program's leader in career batting average (.447) and on-base percentage (.569), after starting 244 of the 245 games Alabama played during her tenure.
While Fouts has experience with Team USA's U19 team, this is her first time being called up to the full squad and she'll round out an experienced group of pitchers with LHP Monica Abbott (Tennessee '07) and LHP Jailyn Ford (James Madison '16).
Most recently, Fouts led her 2021 Crimson Tide team to the program's 13th appearance in the NCAA's Women's Colege World Series and brought home the sixth SEC tournament title. Alabama's most reliable strikeout artist in some time led the NCAA in K's for the 2021 season, tossed 22 complete games as a junior and recorded a perfect game against UCLA in the WCWS.
Alabama fans can support the pair in person come July 7-17 as Team USA competes at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham. The softball event competes in Hoover Metropolitan Stadium starting on July 9 at 10:00 AM CST and will consist of two matchups daily, ending with a final at 9:10 PM CST on July 13.
