What’s Driving the 2024 Hurricane Season?

Rationale 1

The Atlantic Ocean is experiencing unprecedented warmth across numerous regions, a condition that may also contribute to the amplification of storm activity.

Rationale 2

Simply put, La Niña. This is typically linked to the intensification of storms.

NOAA's Climate Prediction Center is forecasting "neutral conditions in the equatorial eastern Pacific to cool and become La Niña by the heart of this hurricane season, with a greater than 70% chance of developing."

“Ahead of Schedule”

On top of the increase projections for this year, according to The Weather Channel, “we're now weeks ahead of schedule.”

“The average third tropical storm typically forms on August 3, followed by the fourth tropical storm on August 15. The first hurricane typically forms on August 11, followed by the second hurricane on August 26,” said The Weather Channel.

The Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa weather team will monitor the tropics and bring you all the necessary updates that impact Alabama and our coastline.
