A new community workshop series starting in July aims to give Tuscaloosa residents the tools they need to resolve conflict before it escalates.

PeaceLink, in partnership with Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, will host "Talking It Through Thursdays," a four-part public safety and community stability workshop series, this summer.

Sessions will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on July 9, July 16, August 13, and August 20 at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, which is at 128 39th Street East.

The series will be moderated by Carlton L. Avery, founder of PeaceLink and a conflict-resolution and community-engagement advocate. Each session is designed to give residents practical tools for de-escalation, constructive communication, and peaceful dispute resolution. Topics will include conflict prevention, communication skills, scenario-based problem solving, and strategies for building healthier neighborhood relationships.

Organizers say the goal is to help residents work through everyday disagreements before they require law enforcement involvement, ultimately fostering stronger, safer and more connected neighborhoods.

Residents, church members, neighborhood leaders, civic organizations, and other community stakeholders are encouraged to attend and to share the opportunity with others.
