A two-vehicle crash in Sumter County killed a woman from the Ward community Sunday morning.

Iesha L. Pritchett, 34, was critically injured when the 2002 Buick Century she was driving struck a 2023 Nissan Kicks driven by a man who is also from Ward, at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

The impact caused the Nissan to leave the roadway and overturn.

Pritchett was airlifted to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, where she later died from her injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey said.

The other driver was also injured and transported to Ochsner Rush Medical Center in Meridian, Mississippi, for treatment.

The crash occurred on Alabama 17 near Sumter County 42, approximately 11 miles south of York, which is about 70 miles from Tuscaloosa.

Troopers with ALEA's Highway Patrol continue to investigate.
