Tuscaloosa Bringing Back Summer School Supplies for Parking Tickets Program
A familiar back-to-school tradition is returning to Tuscaloosa, giving residents a chance to clear parking tickets while helping local youngsters in need.
Beginning Monday, July 6, Tuscaloosa residents may pay off $25 overtime parking tickets with a donation of school supplies valued at $15. School supplies valued at $30 or more will be accepted in place of two $25 parking tickets. All supplies collected will be donated to Tuscaloosa City Schools and distributed to local students in need.
The program has run for several years, growing steadily each summer. In 2025, the city's sixth year running the drive, residents cleared 249 overtime tickets and donated more than 1,000 school supplies, an increase of over 300 items from the previous year.
The city also runs a similar program each holiday season, allowing residents to donate toys to Toys for Tots before Christmas in exchange for ticket forgiveness.
Tuscaloosa City Schools serves roughly two dozen schools across the district, and supplies collected through the program are distributed directly to students who need them.
Participants can bring their school supplies to Tuscaloosa Municipal Court, 2122 Gary Fitts St. The program runs from July 6 through July 31. For questions, call the city of Tuscaloosa's 311 hotline.
