Freshman Linebacker Xavier Griffin Earns Shaun Alexander Award Weekly Recognition
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Freshman linebacker Xavier Griffin continues to rake in the accolades after his stellar performance against Mississippi State on Saturday, being named the Shaun Alexander Award Freshman Player of the Week, according to a release from the University of Alabama.

The former five-star freshman from Gainesville, Georgia, led the Crimson Tide with nine tackles, including six solo tackles, in Alabama's 56-23 victory over then-No. 16 (now No. 17) Mississippi State on Saturday. The weekly recognition is the first for Griffin in his career, and the second for the Crimson Tide this season. Keelon Russell earned the accolade after Alabama's win over Florida State.
Griffin tallied nine total tackles, a quarterback hurry, and one sack, helping lead the Crimson Tide to a season-high five sacks against the Bulldogs. He was also named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday morning.
No. 6 Alabama will host No. 2 Georgia on Saturday, October 10, inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. CT on ABC.
